Knowledge management
Business success through project and programme management excellence
Cranefield College is a registered private Higher Education institution. It provides strategy-centred leadership and management education that enables organisations to progress towards a learning culture and knowledge management excellence.
Value-creation opportunities are shifting to the management of knowledge-based strategies that deploy the organisation’s intangible assets, such as customer relationships and service, productive and responsive processes, innovative products and services, information systems, a healthy organisational climate, strategy-focused leadership and motivation, and employee knowledge and competency.
Rejection of bureaucratic practices is encouraged in favour of an integrated high-performance team approach to flexible and agile value chain management. This approach utilises cross-functional processes that are managed by employing project and programme management principles, enabling organisations to continuously transform, change and improve performance.
Enhanced communication, and strategy-aligned co-ordination and integration of operations result, lead to a structured approach towards achieving benefits of strategic importance for the organisation. As this approach encourages systems thinking, the benefits of strategic importance generated by the operations processes are measured, appraised and reviewed by executive leaders including programme managers.
Conventional ways of managing organisations and the traditional organisational structures are becoming obsolete. Functional approaches to management which are rigid no longer cope with the demands of the situation. This has meant that organisations and the leaders thereof lack both strategic purpose and customer focus.
Cranefield offers courses that cover the knowledge management approach outlined above. It offers a web-based project implementation course (Module Alpha, see MDL), as well as a classroom-based Advanced Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s degree in project and programme-based value chain management.
An outcomes-based adult learning approach is followed in its teaching and learning, using both theory and case material. The classroom-based teaching and learning programmes will soon be offered in the European Union, including the United Kingdom.
The curriculum involves extensive individual and group work between lecture days. A modular system is utilised, comprising three full days of lectures per module, spread over a period of three months. Cranefield is immensely proud of its many graduates who are appointed to senior leadership and management positions in both the private and public sectors, not only in Africa but also globally.
